That Beautiful Name

I love the study of the names of our Savior in the sweet Scriptures. Just in the Book of John alone, I have been blessed this week as I read that He is the Word, the Light, the Lamb of God, the Messiah, the Son of God, the King of Israel and we aren't even out of the first chapter of the Apostle's writings.  Psalm 9:10 tells us that "And they that  know Thy Name will put their trust in Thee: for Thou,LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek Thee" and here in the Christmas season, I want us to look at a few that the Isaiah prophesied concerning our Lord hundreds of years before He lay in a manger. In chapter 9 of that O.T. Book, He is called Wonderful.

My heart was stirred again this morning as I prayed and realized afresh that He is truly wonderful. If your life seems drab and the world's fleeting excitements are leaving you dry, fix your eyes on Jesus- He is Wonderful! He won't disappoint you, the wonder won't wear out ( as the presents under the tree do). Actually, because we can never in this lifetime learn everything about Him, our pursuit and awareness of His awesomeness grows daily. The word, awesome, is used frequently but really, only One is awe-inspiring and His Name is called Wonderful!  Are you in a season of life where you just don't know what to do? He is Counsellor, (KJV spelling). Look to Him for life's answers. I love the verse in Psalms which says "This God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our Guide even unto death." Jesus came as the Light to the world, a world staggering around in darkness, and He graciously shows us step by step how we are to walk in this pilgrim's journey. Don't we all struggle with questions at times? Ask Him- He is our Counsellor!  He is our Wisdom!  He is Mighty God! He asked Abraham this question- "Is anything too hard for the LORD?" Don't you rejoice along with me, fellow Saint, that you are on the side of One Who can speak and the thing is accomplished? Giving a son to an old man and woman was not a challenge for our powerful God. Isaac was promised and none of God's promises fail.  No one nor  anything nor any circumstance can withstand Him. He is All-powerful!  He has won so we do also. We are more than conquerors through Him because He is Mighty God!

He is the Everlasting Father! We cannot comprehend everlasting or eternal because we are confined to an element called time. He isn't. All of life for us is transitory- even people we love and trust pass out of our lives so if you are looking for stability and something or Someone Who lasts, then set your affections on Him for He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. He always has been- He always will be because He is our Everlasting Father! We are transitory but He is transcendent!  Is your heart restless and fearful in this "tottering on the brink" world? I find tremendous comfort in knowing that He is the Prince of Peace. To us who have believed, He reigns there now in our hearts and one day, and I believe it is sooner than we think, Jesus Christ will reign and rule with justice and righteousness. All hearts cry out for that yet it is never achieved in this world because rulers can be bought off, their hearts are selfish, and many times they care nothing for their constituents but imagine with me the exhiliration we will experience when the government rests on King Jesus' shoulders. All will finally be right, Amen!

There is another old Christmas song written in the 1900's that I used for my title today- That Beautiful Name. I can't find it on any site that I can share. Here are some words from it that I heard just today on a Christmas CD by Damaris Carbaugh. "I know of a Name, a beautiful Name, that unto a Babe was given; the stars glittered bright throughout that glad night, and angels praised God in heaven. That beautiful Name, that beautiful Name from sin has power to free us! That beautiful Name, that wonderful Name, that matchless Name is Jesus."  When the angel came to Joseph concerning the Child that his betrothed, the young and virgin Mary, would bear, He said His Name will be called Jesus for He will save His people from their sins. I praise the Bearer of that Name because no greater need did we have than for One to save us from our sins. He didn't come to help us find salvation or aid in our "path" to find what fits us- no, no, He came to save us from our sins because we are utterly hopeless unless He does so!  Praise that Beautiful Name, that Name of Jesus!!

Rejoicing today over being forgiven!  Deborah
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12
